Surface of equipment should be non-harmful stuff, like protruding nails, projecting wire rope terminations or pointed or sharp-edgedcomponents. Rough surfaces should not present any risk of injury, Protruding bolt threads within any accessible part of the equipment shall be permanently covered, e.g. dome headed nuts. 

There shall be no crushing points or shearing points between moving and/or stationary parts of the equipment.

When choosing materials, the manufacturer should take into account the entrapment hazards that can occur through distortion ofmaterials during use. The design and manufacture of playground should consider Entrapment to player:  Head and Neck, Clothing and Hair, The Whole Body, The Foot and Leg, Fingers.

Equipment should be installed in a safe way, also to meet, for example, national or local building andsafety regulations.
Equipment should be installed in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions 
On completion of a new playground, a post-installation inspection should be caried out by a competent person to assess compliance with the relevant part(s) of local safety standard.
Equipment and its components should be inspected and maintained in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions at a frequency not less than that given by the manufacturer.
Equipment and its components should be inspected as follows: 1.Routine visual inspection, 2.Operational inspection, 3.Annual main inspection.

Parts which comprise qlass fibre reinforced plastics (GRP) should be replaced or repaired once the glass fibres become visible due to wear or damage. This particulary applies to slides.

When play equipment relies on one post for its stabilitly, special attention should be paid to maintenance, e.g.by monitoring degradation and, if necessary, decommissioning the item before the end of its operating life.

To prevent accidents, the owner or operator should ensure that an appropriate inspection schedule isestablished and maintained for each playground.

The operator of a playground should periodically, at least once a year, systematically assess the effecliveness of all safety measures used (Local Safety Standard and Manufacturer’s instruction) and alter them if it is found necessary on the basis of experience, or if circumstances have changed.
